Learn about combining sterling silver and metal clay!
In this workshop Mardel Rein shows you how to fuse sterling silver and low fire metal clay using a torch or a kiln. Use this technique to fuse any sterling silver object to metal clay or fuse metal clay directly to sterling silver.
Embed and fire sterling silver findings (like ear posts and cufflink chains), embellish tubes, ring blanks, bracelet blanks or anything else made of sterling silver, even cast parts.
Metal clay can be applied directly to the sterling silver as an embellishment, wet or dry, fired or unfired. Metal clay can also be "glued" onto sterling silver and fired in place.
Fusing will free you to use fine silver and sterling silver findings and settings such as pin backs, prong settings and ear posts or any other sterling silver element where the strength of an alloy is needed.
The project created in this DVD is designed to teach fusing, beginning soldering, beginning metal smithing, beginning stone setting as well as forming, patination, and polishing. You will create a beautiful pair of sterling silver domed swinging earrings with a bezel or prong set gemstone ear post.
For those not interested in learning to solder, the project can be made entirely by fusing the parts with metal clay.
The DVD includes complete step-by-step instructions, materials and tools lists and a handy glossary. 50 minutes long.
