The Amazing Casting Resin is really easy to use. It is a super-fast curing general purpose opaque-white urethane casting resin used for a wide variety of casting applications. Being opaque white it takes dyes beautifully, giving you vivid bright opaque colours.
Its low viscosity and 1:1 mix ratio by weight make the Amazing Casting Resin extremely easy to use. The cured resin can be painted, stained, dyed, drilled, and carved.
This resin really is super fast - it begins to harden in about 3 minutes, and can be de-moulded after about 10 min! You'll see it harden in front of your eyes, the translucent yellow starts to change into an opaque white, it is fascinating to watch. Great if you are impatient! Once cured, it can be painted with acrylic paint, stained, drilled and machined.
This is a casting resin, so it isn't designed to use in thin coats, like filling shallow bezels - if you need a resin for that, please look at our pouring resins instead. And this is a opaque white resin, if you want a translucent/transparent finish, look at our Amazing Clear Cast Resin instead.
Ensure any moulds or tools are completely dry. Don't use with water based dyes or colours, we recommend our Alumilite Dyes, or dry colours, like Pearl Ex.
Alumilite's White also known as Amazing Casting Resin provides users with an extremely user friendly rigid urethane that has good overall physical and cosmetic properties. The low viscosity along with the white appearance makes this material ideal for users who are looking for perfect cosmetics in their castings. The material has a mixed viscosity less than 100 cps and a mix ratio of 1:1 by weight or by volume. The material features a 2.5-3 minute work time and transitions from clear to opaque white to let the user know when the pot life is expiring. Demould time typically ranges from 5 to 15 minutes depending on the mold temperature and the mass of the material being cast. We always recommend warming the mould before casting to achieve a more consistent and thorough cure.
**NOTE ABOUT COLOURS AND DYES**
If you add dyes, the final cured colours will be affected by the opaque white base of the resin. For example: if you want to turn your resin red, you might need more dye than you would for a translucent resin. If you add only a small amount of red and it turns out pink - you need to add more dye. If you're used to clear resins, you might want to do some testing and play around with your colours.
Resin must be kept dry and in sealed bottles at all times. Keep the caps of each resin bottle on tight at all times. Even during use, pour out what you need, then put the caps back on immediately until your next use. This will keep your resin in good working condition for as long as possible.

Regarding health & safety, we always recommend doing your own research, and make your own decisions on any precautions you need to take. Read the SDS and get advice if needed. We suggest ensuring you have good ventilation, and protect your skin and eyes (use nitrile gloves only, don’t use latex with resin). If you work with a large amount of resin, or work with it often, you might want to invest in a VOC filtered face mask.

|Why is my cast piece soft? |
Typically, the reason your Amazing Casting Resin piece is soft is that the part you poured is small or thin and the resin was poured into a mould that was room temperature or even worse ... cold. The Amazing Casting Resin is exothermic, which means it generates heat as it cures. The resin needs this heat to cure properly. If the part is small and or thin and poured into a cold mould, it does not have the ability to generate the heat required to cure fully. So the material will gel and start to cure but not finish because it is lacking the heat necessary to finish curing properly. With your piece in the Amazing Mould Putty mould, simply place it in an oven at 150F or less for an hour or place it under a heat lamp for a couple hours to supply the cast piece some heat in order for it to cure.
|Is the Amazing Casting Resin cured piece UV stable? |
No, like most resin it needs a UV protective coating. The Amazing Casting Resin is Opaque White and will yellow slightly over time if it is exposed to UV light. Clear acrylics or lacquers work well for protecting the resins from changing colour. There are two ways of applying paint to achieve the best adhesion. First paint the mould and allow it to completely dry before casting your resin. As the resin flows into the painted mould, it will chemically bond to the paint as the resin is curing and after the resin cures you will de-mould a perfectly painted part. Painting the mould prior to casting allows you to reproduce perfect detail by painting becoming the outside layer of the actual part rather than cover the exact cast replica with paint that could then cover up fine detail. The other option for painting your part is to paint the part as soon as you remove the cast part from the mould and after you remove any flash while the resin is still curing. Although the resin is de-mouldable, the casting resin is still curing and if painted during the first 5 or 10 minutes of casting the part, the resin will still crosslink with the paint to give you not only a mechanical bond but also a chemical bond between the paint and the cast piece. Paints have built in UV stabilisers which then block out the UV light from ever reaching the casting resin which could affect the colour.
|Can I paint the Amazing Casting Resin piece? |
Yes! We recommend lacquers or acrylics but you may also use synthetics or enamels. A lacquer primer may be needed to assure the long term effectiveness of the paint. You may wish to paint your silicone mould before casting. Paint the mould with a fast drying acrylic or clear coat. Once it is completely dry, cast your piece. When you de-mould the part you will pull out a painted piece. The Amazing Casting Resin will chemically bond to the dried paint. The other option is to paint the part as soon as it comes out of the mould while the resin is still curing to allow the curing resin to crosslink with the paint.
|Why is my Amazing Casting Resin foaming or bubbling? |
Moisture contamination in urethanes causes foaming. If it foams quite a bit, most likely the moisture is right in the Amazing Casting Resin. The moisture is usually in the A-side. There is not a fool proof method of removing moisture from your system. Typically the B side will crystallise when moisture is present. The A side, however, will not look any different.
Moisture is absorbed through the air and therefore is very important to put the caps back on the bottles as soon as you are done measuring out the amount you need for your next pour. Do not leave the caps off for any extended period of time.
|Can I put any filler into my Amazing Casting Resin? |
Yes. You may use any dry filler and add it to your A & B before you mix the two equal parts together to achieve different looks, weight, or density to your cast piece. If there is any moisture in your filler, it will make the resin foam or bubble. Therefore, make sure your filler is dry. Examples of types of fillers would be: playground sand, to give you a fine granite or sandstone look. Porcelain, for cold cast porcelain. Aluminium, to add weight.

Bought this item as it said it takes colors really well, added 2 big drops of alumilite red dye and it came out baby pink, done another test batch added about 8/9 drops of red again and when it dried it still didnt resemble a nice red color looked more of a fluorescent orange, also mixed blue and purple dyes and it just makes the colors look pastel. **RESPONSE FROM METAL CLAY** Hi Jane, Thank you for your review, we're sorry to hear you're unhappy with this product. We of course appreciate your honest feedback but would like to do what we can to help resolve the problem. This resin does have an opaque white base that will affect the final colour result. It's essentially like adding colour to white paint. It is possible to achieve quite vivid, solid colours but it is important to do tests first and record which colours you use, how many drops, ratios to the resin, etc until you get the precise colour you're after.
