I used coconut carbon and I fired at a ramp speed of 900℃. For my larger piece (about 40gm) I extended the firing with 40 minutes longer than recommended. I quenched my pieces once the kiln had cooled to around 500℃ and there was no sign of any fire scale, just natural patina. \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan style=\"color: #008080;\"\u003eYou can achieve a lovely yellow gold semi-matt finish with just a steel brush. No pickling required. Rubber bands may discolour the clay.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eKeep the clay at a moderate to cool room temperature and out of sunlight.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eBase metal clays and bronze can cause allergic reactions in some people, wash your hands well after using the product. If you know you have a sensitivity to Bronze, consult with your doctor before use.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eManufacturer's firing recommendation\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cp\u003eArt Clay Bronze must be fired in activated carbon using a programmable electric kiln. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ePut approximately 2cm of coconut shell activated carbon on the bottom of a metal container. Place the piece on the carbon and add carbon, approximately 2cm over the piece.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ePlace the box in the cold kiln, heat up to 820°C using a slow ramp. You will need a minimum of 20 mins of ramp up time, going slower is better as it gives the binder a chance to burn out which is important for a full sinter.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\u003cli\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cem\u003eIf you are using a ceramic container or a very large container, Metal Clay Ltd strongly recommend you extend both the ramp speed (so set it at a lower ramp setting to take longer to heat up) and the hold time as the ceramic containers take longer to heat up.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eFire at 820°C for 2hrs.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eLeave the firing box in kiln until cooled down to room temperature.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePickling\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cp\u003eMost of the time this is not needed.
