Brightening up your metal clay creations has never been more enjoyable! Introducing dipping inks – a delightful way to infuse vibrant colours into your projects. Simply brush on these inks, let them dry, and then polish your piece to perfection, effortlessly removing any excess ink from the raised areas. Pam East has put these dipping inks to the test on metal clay, resulting in colourful and durable finished pieces.

To bring your silver metal clay to life, you can apply the inks straight after firing – no need to brush the piece! Additionally, you can use the inks on an already polished piece. If a patina has been applied, you can re-fire and clean the piece before applying the inks. While the patina won't affect the inks, it will alter the color's appearance. For copper metal clay, brush it after firing before applying the inks.

Especially effective in deeper textures, these inks allow you to paint different elements in various colors. Here's a quick guide on how to use them:

1. Shake well – each bottle contains a metal ball to help mix the ink.
2. Dispense a small amount of ink into your palette – remember, you can always add more, but you can't take it back!
3. Dampen your paintbrush in water, wiping off any excess.
4. Dip your brush into the ink and apply it to your piece, making sure not to apply it too thickly. Don't worry about being a bit messy – you can clean it up once it's dried.
5. The inks mix and blend well, allowing you to create new colours or blend them together.

After applying the inks, let the piece dry – either air dry or use a dehydrator, being cautious not to overheat it. Once dry, it's time to clean up the piece. You can hand-polish to remove excess ink, or follow Pam East's preferred method: tumble with Hone and Highlight for 2 hours, then tumble with stainless steel shot for another 30 minutes. This process removes excess ink from the raised parts, leaving vibrant color in the deeper textures.

No need to seal the piece, but feel free to do so if you desire. Let your creativity flow with these dipping inks, turning your metal clay projects into colorful masterpieces!
