Product Description
Rawhide Mallet 1.5" - an essential for jewellers!
A must have for any jewellers tool kit, used to shape and form metal without leaving scratches or marks. Ideal for gently stretching and forming rings and bangles around a mandrel and for work on textured pieces.
Made from tightly coiled leather these mallets provide a soft striking surface which is ideal when working with softer metals. The softer head also means the mallet can be trimmed, filed and sanded to remove damage from use.
It's really important to take care of your rawhide mallet to ensure it lasts as long as possible. To condition a new mallet you will need to remove the hard shellac or resin coating, soak the rawhide in water, and sand or rasp it to achieve a usable surface.
